A real person behind every pick

Austin, who runs Caring Curator

Hi, I'm Austin, the person behind Caring Curator. No faceless brand and no call center: one person picks everything here, and you can see the rest of what I work on if you want to know who you're taking a recommendation from.

Why this site exists

This started as a project to help families find what their loved ones need. The more I dug, the more clever things I found that make getting older safer or more comfortable, and I wanted one place to put them. That place became Caring Curator.

It isn't an abstract subject for me either. I worked at Highgate Senior Living, and I still go back every week to play cards and visit. I won't claim everything here got used there, because it didn't. But those visits are in the back of my mind every time I judge whether something is simple enough.

Shopping for an aging parent is its own kind of exhausting. Thousands of products, endless reviews, and no way to tell which ones were designed with an older adult in mind. So this is a short list instead of a long one, in plain language and large type.

How I choose what to recommend

It has to solve a real problem that comes with getting older, ask for less grip and less balance rather than more, and be something I'd feel good putting in a family member's home. Plenty of well-reviewed things fail that last one. The longer version is here.

How the site is paid for

Caring Curator is free to use. When you buy through one of my links, I may earn a small commission from Amazon, at no extra cost to you. It never changes the price you pay, and it doesn't change what I recommend. Read the full disclosure.

If you need more than a product

Caring Curator is one corner of something larger. I'm a founding member of the SoulSeen Network, a group of independent professionals who help families navigate aging: concierge support, senior moving and downsizing, and guidance for adult children facing a parent's declining health. One call reaches the whole circle, and I'm always glad to make the introduction.
