Why I built Salve

It started with someone I love

I built Salve for my partner. She lives with chronic pain and several disabilities, and just keeping track of medications, symptoms, and appointments had become its own exhausting job. I wanted one calm, private place that did the remembering for her.

It helped, so I kept building, and started sharing it with other people carrying the same load. Calm mode is the latest step: it pares the app back to large text and simple choices, so it's useful even for someone who would find a typical health app overwhelming or too technical.

I'm always working to make it gentler and more intuitive. Salve is made by Austin, who also curates Caring Curator.

New · Calm mode

A calmer way to see your day

Calm mode is Salve at its simplest: larger text, bigger buttons, and only the essentials on screen. It trades the detailed charts for a clear, uncluttered view that's easier to read and far less intimidating.

It's a single switch, on when you want it and off when you don't. Turn it on for yourself on a tiring day, or set it up for someone who finds most apps busy, hard to read, or simply too much to take in.

It's the view to reach for:

  • when small text and buttons are a struggle
  • for anyone who finds a full app overwhelming
  • when you're setting things up for a parent or someone you care for
Salve's home screen in Calm mode: large buttons for Vitals, Journal, and Meds, and a button to talk to Sage.
Calm mode home: a few big, clear choices, with Sage a tap away.
  • Salve's vitals screen in Calm mode, with large buttons for pain, mood, heart rate, temperature, blood oxygen, and steps.
In Calm mode, recording a vital is a couple of large, clearly labeled taps.
  • Salve's daily check-in in Calm mode: mood choices like Great, Okay, Low, and Anxious, a box to write or speak a note, and a Save button.
The daily check-in: tap how you feel, add a note if you like.

What it helps with

It does the busywork, so you don't have to

  • Medications

Log your doses, get reminders, and see the next one at a glance. As you type a medication, Salve fills in the details for you.

  • Vitals

Track blood pressure, sleep, weight, and more with simple charts. Connect Apple Health or a wearable, or enter readings by hand.

  • A daily journal

Note your mood, symptoms, and what helped, in seconds. Salve can even draft the day from a short, friendly chat.

  • One private place

Everything is encrypted and yours. Nothing is sold, there are no ads, and you can start without an account.

Meet Sage

A knowledgeable companion, one tap away

Sage answers questions in plain language, gently flags changes worth noticing (a dip in sleep, a dose that was missed), and keeps the nudges to a quiet minimum, never a flood of alerts.

Sage can also stand in your corner with insurance. It helps you make sense of a denial letter or an explanation of benefits, and walks you through appealing a charge. That's the kind of paperwork that wears families down, and it's exactly where a calm guide helps most.
